A JURY in the trial of a Polish man accused of murdering Bogdan Michalkiewicz (41) in Letterkenny in 2013 took just ovr five hours today to reach a unanimous verdict of guilty.
 
The bludgeoened body of Bogdan Michalkiewicz (41) was found at the victim’s home in Westside Apartments, Letterkenny, on May 13 2013.
 
For the past three weeks evidence has been heard against the accused Krzystof Grzegorski (22) who has been sentenced to the mandatory term of life imprisonment by trial judge Justice Patrick McCarthy at Dublin’s Central Criminal Court. The sentence was backdated to May 26, 2014 when Grzegorski was first taken into custody.
 
A second man, Dariusz Weckowicz (51), was acquitted of Bogdan’s murder by the direction of the judge.
 
A victim impact statement from the deceased man’s brother, Tomasz, heard how Bogdan had come to Ireland for a better life but instead met with a tragic death. In it he said the only family he has left are his mother and sister in Poland and they have all been deeply traumatised by the murder.
 
Gruesome evidence of the many injuries inflicted on the victim by the accused were told to the jury over the course of the trial.
