A PROUD Donegal and Na Rossa woman has been more than busy, working away behind enemy lines in recent weeks.
Annette Horgan (nee McCready), originally from Leitirmacaward, is the current treasurer of the Donegal Association Kerry which is based in Killarney.
She moved to Killorglin 15 years ago with her husband Daniel, where they now live with their two children, John (7) and Danneka (3).
A former neighbour, and still a good friend, of minor manager Declan Bonner, Annette’s nephew John McDyre is also on the U-18 panel.
She co-founded the association five years ago following a chance conversation with the current chairman, Inver native Sean Gallagher.
Ever since, they have been meeting regularly and now boast more than 120 members. Their proudest day, to date, was when they brought Sam to the heart of the Kingdom in 2012, following Donegal’s defeat of Mayo.
“That was great craic, bringing Sam to Kerry. We had a massive crowd in Scotts Hotel in Killarney to see Sam adorned with the Donegal colours and hopefully we can do the same this year again,” she said.
Manageress of the popular Scéal Eile Restaurant in Killarney, Annette said the banter has been great in the town in recent weeks.
“I created a window display in the restaurant which is half Donegal and half Kerry and that has been the cause of a lot of banter.
“I even have a cardboard cut-out of Jim McGuinness and Eamonn Fitzmaurice standing side-by-side. It’s great to be in the final with Kerry, especially after our huge win over Dublin.”
While she will obviously be cheering for Donegal on Sunday, Annette admitted she wouldn’t be too disappointed if Kerry manage to win.
“They have been treating me very well down here, so I suppose I will be happy enough if Kerry happen to win.”
