LGFA: Reigning Champions Termon off to a winning start

The opening series of matches in the Donegal LGFA Senior Ladies Championship took place in glorious sunshine on Sunday morning.

Reigning senior county champions Termon began the defence of their crown in impressive fashion, easing past the challenge of Glenfin at the Burn Road, winning by 3-15 to 0-10.

One of the sides that could challenge Termon this season is an ever-improving Naomh Conaill team and they were in brilliant form as they cruised to an 8-11 to 1-11 win over last year’s Intermediate winners Naomh Muire at Davy Brennan Memorial Park.

St. Eunan’s also made home advantage count as they were impressive, defeating Aodh Ruadh by 4-08 to 2-08.

It was a close game in Moville too where the hosts eventually got the better of St. Naul’s by 5-12 to 2-10.

In the Intermediate Championship, there was just one tie played on Sunday with Gaoth Dobhair defeating St. Mary’s, Convoy in Magheragallon by 2-11 to 1-08.

It’s a good start for Gaoth Dobhair who travel to play Dungloe in their next game.

At Junior A level, Kilcar made the long trip to Inishowen and came home with a brilliant win over Naomh Padraig, Uisce Chaoin.

Kilcar, playing in the Junior A competition after winning Junior B last year, got their campaign off to the perfect start with a 4-13 to 2-06 win.

Robert Emmets, fresh from their Division 3 title success, also recorded an excellent victory on Sunday. They made the journey to Glencolmcille where after a rip-roaring encounter, they ran out two point winners on a scoreline of Naomh Columba 1-18, Robert Emmets 4-11.

Meanwhile Na Dunaibh, one of the favourites for Junior A success this year, were way too strong for Four Masters, winning by 5-16 to 1-04.

In the Junior B Championship, there were two games played. Sean MacCumhaill’s roared out of the blocks against Letterkenny Gaels and were 1-03 to 0-0 in front inside ten minutes.

They were always in control after that and ran out deserving winners by 2-10 to 1-04.

And in the other Junior B game, Red Hughs defeated Aodh Ruadh 2 by a score of 0-13 to 0-5.
