A charity event inspired by Letterkenny Rotary Club is taking place throughout April in the twin town of Rudolstadt.
Rudolstadt, in the German state of Thuringia, has been twinned with Letterkenny since 2018. In the three years since, links have been formed along education, cultural and social lines.
Strong ties have also developed between the respective Rotary Clubs and spurred by the recent Winter Woolie Warmer 5K fundraiser organised by Rotarians in Letterkenny, a similar event has been organised in Rudolstadt.
The Heidecksburg Charity Run invites runners, joggers and walkers to complete a five kilometre circuit of their choosing – regardless of location or speed – and make a small donation any time between now and May 2.
The money will be used to support ‘The Women’s Shelter’ and ‘The Homeless Shelter’ as well as other social projects in and around Rudolstadt.
“Your generous donation will go to where it is most urgently needed in these difficult times,” said a spokesperson for Rudolstadt Rotary Club.
“Your support is greatly appreciated, so please get off the sofa and into your running gear for a good cause.”
Participants are encouraged to post a picture from their run on the Rotary Rudolstadt Facebook or Instagram page. Spot prizes will be awarded to lucky volunteers.
