LETTERKENNY’S brand new B&Q store will open on Friday – creating 35 new jobs in the process.
The new 35,000 square foot store is located at Letterkenny Retail Park, the site of the previous Homebase store.
B&Q will employ 35 staff, 19 of whom have transferred from Homebase.
The new store has been remodelled and refreshed with B&Q branding and products. It will offer a wide range of home improvement essentials, along with a dedicated TradePoint counter tailored to meet the needs of local trade professionals.
In addition to over 13,000 essential home improvement products, there’ll be a dedicated timber cutting service, B&Q’s popular Valspar paint mixing service, and a garden centre offering outdoor plants and gardening equipment and a 1-hour click and collect service.
Staff members who were formerly employed by Homebase and have since transferred to B&Q celebrated the upcoming opening by helping Local Youth & Family Service in Letterkenny to help transform its afterschool club area.
The day was part of B&Q’s wider Community Days programme where volunteers from local B&Q stores nationwide support their local community by improving a charity space, making a positive difference across the communities B&Q serves.
Local Youth & Family Service is a voluntary community managed service for children, young people and families of Donegal. Based in Letterkenny it aims to promote general and personal development by providing opportunities to develop physical, mental, educational and social needs through the medium of learning experiences, programmes and projects.
Gary Heatherington, Unit Manager at the new B&Q store, said: “We’ll be opening the doors to our brand-new store on Friday, 30 May and we are really looking forward to welcoming our new customers into the store.
“It was great to mark the upcoming opening by working with Local Youth & Family Service to support them in transforming their afterschool club area, which is such an important space for the people that use it.”
The grand opening of B&Q Letterkenny will be at 9am on Friday, May 30 at Letterkenny Retail Park, F92 YV60.
The first 100 customers making an in-store purchase on the day will receive a 13cm flowering garden plant (subject to availability and conditions, one plant per customer in a single transaction).
Other grand opening day activities include live music, surprise and delight gift card for the first 50 customers coming in store between 9am and 9.30am (gift card subject to terms and conditions) and the Dulux dog will also be greeting customers from 9am until 11am.
