Addressing the congregation at Mass, Chief Celebrant, Fr Ciaran Harkin said Mr Hegarty had been blessed with a long life.

“His life also, as we certainly know too, brought many blessings to so many people, especially of course to you, his family, to his close friends and to his neighbours,” he said.

Over the years, Mr Hegarty worked as a digger driver and was a dedicated worker on the family farm.

In addition to his hard work, he regularly visited neighbours, many of whom lived alone, and were always grateful for his company.

Fr Harkin remembered Mr Hegarty for living a life filled with love, joy and peace.

“He lived a life of patience and kindness, a life of faithfulness,” he said.

“A life very well lived.”
