Letterkenny’s intergalactic mystery solved

THE mystery surrounding a Stormtrooper and a globe-headed character on Letterkenny’s streets has been solved.
It was in fact filming for the latest episode of the whacky comedy podcast ‘Spacejuck’.
Shoppers were stopped in their tracks recently as the outlandish Spacejuck tackled the Star Wars baddie on Letterkenny’s High Road. Their inter-galactic tête-à-tête ended with a showdown in Blake’s Bar which Spacejuck, being the good guy, naturally won.
The project is from the pen of local film-maker Bill Hazzard who has just posted the eighth episode of his Spacejuck Spacecast.
According to the show’s Facebook page Spacejuck is a ‘juck from Letterkenny who lost his face many years ago, supposedly trying to fuel a home-made space rocket with poitin’.
‘He has a shed out the road somewhere past the Oldtown where he constructs his contraptions. He is aided in his adventures by Sick Little Monkey, a mutant who escaped a virus laboratory many years ago, and Lizardman, an alien with a serious weed addiction’.
In the latest episode – the one that turned heads on the High Road – two Stormtroopers arrived with a plan to invade earth. A battle commences with Spacejuck eventually saving the world from Stormtrooper domination.

It’s all kicking off between Spacejuck and his Star Wars foe.

Among those who have participated in recent episodes of the podcast are well known local figures John Muldowney and Paddy Meehan. Other guests have included Saraí Humble, Pirate Tom Rotten, Steven Crane from Aul Eire, Franck Saucian, Maighread Ní Ghrásta from Blackbird and Crow, Kev Gallagher and Marty Mulroe.
And it isn’t just confined to Letterkenny. Episodes have ended up in Ramelton, Glenveagh and Beltany Stone Circle in Raphoe.
Bill Hazzard told the Donegal News the project was “a bit of craic” dreamt up during the pandemic.
“The Spacecast is a podcast set up by Spacejuck to interview artists, oddballs and interesting people on the fringes of society as well as the odd intergalactic wanderer he comes across in space.

All aboard the Space Tractor.

“I started it last year and it’s completely mad but I suppose that is what lockdown does to you.”
You can watch the Spacejuck Spacecast on both Facebook and Youtube. But be warned, it does contain strong language.
