DONEGAL County Council is to be asked to contact the National Transport Authority (NTA) for extra resources to tackle traffic and congestion issues in Letterkenny.
Motorists have become increasingly frustrated by the mounting levels of traffic and gridlock in the town in recent weeks.
Two separate motions will be discussed at a meeting of Letterkenny-Milford MD tomorrow calling for urgent action to remedy the issue which has been causing a ‘headache’ for motorists.
Councillor Gerry McMonagle is to table a motion urging the local authority approach the NTA for more resources to help with the implementation of the Transport Plan for Letterkenny in light of increasing gridlock in the town.
The Transport Plan includes park and ride facilities, a new public bus service and the proposed Transport Hub.
Cllr McMonagle said the fruition of the Transport Plan will be crucial in resolving the town’s traffic woes.
Meanwhile, Cllr Donal Coyle will ask the council to explain the reason for the “traffic chaos” on the Kilmacrennan Road on Friday, September 29.
He will ask what steps are being taken to avoid a repeat of the situation happening in the future.
