As mourners gathered to bid farewell to the popular Letterkenny man, Daithí’s uncle Kelvin shared some fond memories of his nephew’s life.

“Today we gather not only to celebrate the life of our dear Daithí, but to remember the beautiful soul he was and the love and the joy he brought into our lives,” Kelvin said.

“While Daithí’s journey ended far too soon, his impact on those around him will forever remain etched into our hearts.

“Broken is the phrase that has been most commonly expressed by family and friends over the past few days.”

When Daithí was born, Kelvin said he was cherished and adored, not only by his mother, but by his entire extended family.

“Daithí spent his early years at Woodlands National School and he loved nothing better than racing to get his homework complete to get out and play hurling, football and to wrestle with the children in Elmwood Downs estate where he resided with his mammy.

“He was a person of incredible depth, kindness and sensitivity,” Kelvin said.

“He had a way of lighting up a room with his broad smile and his sparkling blue eyes, his laughter and his unique way of looking at the world.

“His compassion knew no bounds.

“Daithí had a gift for making people feel loved.”

“Words such as thoughtful, intelligent, warm and empathetic come to mind,” Kelvin continued.

“When other people were struggling with life’s difficulties, he often offered to reach out to help by outlining his own struggles and his ways of coping.”

Daithí enjoyed his time working in Belfast and Birmingham before returning home and more recently taking up employment in McDonalds in Letterkenny.

Daithí was remembered for possessing a child-like innocence with an often sensitive soul.

“He was always smiling and outwardly happy, thoughtful, considerate and kind,” Kelvin said.

“Unfortunately, the world can be a daunting place for such a caring soul.

“At times, life for Daithí was not always as bright as the light he brought to others.

“Although Daithí’s life was cut short, he leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and the cherished memories we hold dear.

“We will remember the joy he brought into our lives, the shared laughter and the love he gave so freely.”

Following Mass, burial took place in Conwal Cemetery.

Mr Harvey is deeply missed by his loving mother Tamara, her partner James Buchanan and his children Leanne, Richard and Jennifer, granny Margaret, aunts and uncles Nicola (Garret), Kelvin (Sarah), Donnan, Odhrán (Ciara) and Caolán (Deusa), cousins and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours – Letterkenny and Tyrone.

He was predeceased by his grandfather Joe (2021).
