A DONEGAL third level student is today (Friday) taking part a 24-hour live student television broadcast in Dublin to raise vital funds for the Histiocytosis Research Trust.
Caoimhe Ní Chathail from Letterkenny is one of the Irish language presenters during this year’s broadcast produced by Dublin City University’s Media Production Society.
The daughter of Danny and Bairbre Ní Chathail, she is a former student of Coláiste Ailigh and is in her second year DCU as a Gaeilge agus Iriseoireacht student.
Caoimhe took part in last year’s 24-hour show, which was selected as the winner of the ‘Best Event’ award at the 2013 DCU Societies Awards.
She was involved in the PR and media side of the show last year, as well as presenting the show’s segment on Mastermind as Gaeilge.
Caoimhe was chosen by the Media Production Society, who are running the DCUtv and Bank of Ireland 24-Hour Broadcast, as one of this year’s back stage presenters.
Caoimhe, who wants to pursue a career in television presenting, will be doing skits as well as quizzing the people backstage and trying to keep everyone awake.
Caoimhe says that the success of last year’s broadcast has boosted her confidence and has made her extremely excited to be more involved in this year’s production.
“The broadcast was a highlight of my first year and I am so excited to be involved again this year. I feel privileged to have been chosen as one of the presenters.”
All the funds raised from the 24-hour broadcast, which includes a range of popular television remakes, such as the Late Late Toy Show and Countdown, and eclectic originals, including The Cheesecake Review, will be donated to the Histiocytosis Research Trust.
This charity was chosen as first-year DCU Journalism and member of the Media Production Society, Niamh Ní Ruarí, is suffering from the disease, a rare type of blood cancer.
Caoimhe thinks it is brilliant to be supporting such a worthwhile charity, and says that her and her fellow MPS members have put a lot of work into this broadcast.
Caoimhe hopes that this production will help people realise that third-level students do spend a lot of time trying to put others first and support charities.
