LETTERKENNY woman Anne Larkin has been remembered for her kind and generous nature following her sad passing last week.
Ms Larkin, of 3 Rosemount Villas, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 22.
Requiem Mass took place on Saturday, January 24 in St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny.
Born on Arranmore Island in 1946 to parents Lily and John, Ms Larkin began her career as a secretary in Raymond O’Neill’s solicitors’ office in Letterkenny.
Following this, she worked as a secretary in the dental department of the Health Board.
Addressing the congregation at Mass, Chief Celebrant, Fr Kizito Kalemeera said it was there that she developed lifelong friendships with a wonderful group of colleagues.
“She helped a lot of people during her time in the dental department,” he said.
“It was widely known that if you or your family were on a long waiting list for dental work, but you needed help right away, just call Anne and she would get you sorted.”
Ms Larkin spent most of her life in Letterkenny, where she met and later married her husband, Alec, in the late 1960s.
Together, they had three sons, Stephie, Alec and Mel.
Despite working as a secretary in the dental department, Fr Kalemeera said she wore many hats.
“She did a lot of voluntary work for various organisations including Little Angels School, the animal rescue centre, and the residents committee in Rosemount,” he said.
“Over the years she was a wife, a mother, and a great friend to many.”
In 1989, Ms Larkin suffered an unimaginable loss with the passing of her husband, Alec.
Following his death, she moved in with her father in the Rosemount area of the town, which quickly became her second home.
Fr Kalemeera said Ms Larkin loved people, travelling and meeting new people.
“Some of her trips included Lourdes, Spain and America,” he said.
“She had a great memory; she was a great story teller and had a great knack of connecting with people on a deeper level.
“Anne lived life on her own terms, in her own way and she helped a lot of people along the way.
“All in all, she had a heart of gold and she was great craic.”
After Mass, burial took place in Leck Cemetery.
Ms Larkin is predeceased by her parents Lily and John Gallagher and husband Alec.
She is survived by her loving son’s Stephie, Alec and Mel, grandchildren and daughters in law.
