Letterkenny has picked up another gold medal at this year’s Tidy Towns awards presentation today.
The town were awarded 326 points overall, an increase of 3 compared to last year in the Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre category, while Ennis was the overall winner.
Letterkenny won the overall national Tidy Town in 2015.
Buncrana Tidy Town’s committee also won the regional Tidy Towns Local Authority Pollinator Award for the North West and West Region in the Large Town Category for it’s pollinator project.
Speaking about Buncrana’s achievement, Donegal Heritage Officer, Joe Gallagher said: “The award contributes to the achievement of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan. Among the measures implemented by Buncrana Tidy Towns were selective mowing, the planting of pollinator-friendly plants, the installation of bee boxes/hotels, the erection of signage highlighting areas managed for biodiversity and the delivery of public talks on wildlife.”
Birdhill, Co. Tipperary was awarded the top spot for 2017, out of a record number of 870 towns and villages throughout the country. Other winners on the night was Clonakilty, Co Cork which was decalred Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town, Westport recevied the award for Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town while Ennis was again awarded Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre.
