Letterkenny welcomes German delegation for Culture Night

Letterkenny is rolling out the red carpet as it welcomes a delegation of 55 visitors from its twin town, Rudolstadt, Germany, on Friday, September 20th.

This visit marks another milestone in the cherished relationship that began in 2018, thanks to Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh’s initiative to twin Letterkenny with the Thuringian town.

The bond between the two towns was further strengthened by Letterkenny’s own Karol Kerrane and his friendship with Rudolstadt’s Mayor, Jörg Reichl.

Since then, many meaningful connections have flourished, including student exchange programs with local schools such as Coláiste Ailigh, St. Eunan’s College, and Errigal College.

The German delegation’s visit coincides with Culture Night 2024, offering them a perfect introduction to Irish culture.

Their itinerary includes a tour of Inishowen, featuring Dunree Fort and the Famine Village, as well as a scenic exploration of the Fanad Peninsula and Rathmullan.

Highlights of their visit include a reception hosted by Cllr Gerry McMonagle and an evening of traditional entertainment provided by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann at Dillon’s Hotel.

The group will also visit local schools and conclude their visit with a meeting with the German Ambassador in Dublin before heading home.
