WINTER pressures, respiratory infections and the recent cold snap have driven up capacity levels at Letterkenny University Hospital, with every available bed in use and elective surgeries postponed.
One hundred and seventy people presented to the hospital’s emergency department on Monday, 54 of whom arrived by ambulance with a significant number arriving after 6pm.
Nine ambulances were backed up outside the hospital’s emergency department on Monday night for a time waiting to hand over patients.
