TRAFFIC flow concerns will be to the fore at a public consultation in Letterkenny tomorrow.
Residents, the public and other interested parties are being urged to attend the consultation event in The Vestry from 3pm to 7pm to share their views on Donegal County Council’s plans for two proposed developments under the Letterkenny Active Travel Projects.
Circular Road Active Travel Scheme and Ballyraine Road Active Travel Scheme will be discussed at the event.
The Chamber has recently set up a sub committee to look specifically at traffic flows.
The proposed developments for Circular Road include the creation of a two-way cycle facility on the north side of the carriageway, the removal of the existing centre hatching, and the reduction of the carriageway width to 6.5 meters.
Additionally, the plans feature upgraded pedestrian and cycle crossings, along with traffic calming measures and reduced junction radii at side roads.
On the Ballyraine Road, Donegal County Council plan on removing the existing lineated cycle lanes and installing segregated, one-way cycle lanes along the R940 Ballyraine Road from the N56 Ramelton Road Junction to the L1009 Gortlee Road Junction.
The plans also include the development of a two-way cycle facility along the northern side of Ballyraine Road, extending from the L1009 Gortlee Road Junction to the L10041 Station Car Park.
Additionally, the council plan on introducing a shared vehicle and cycle facility within the L10041 Station Car Park while modifying the existing mini roundabout at the Oatfield Junction to a signalised junction, incorporating dedicated cyclist and pedestrian facilities.
Through these plans, Donegal County Council are seeking to establish high quality continuous footway and cycleway routes in Letterkenny town to promote active travel journeys from residential areas to key education, employment, commercial, recreational, retail and tourist destinations.
Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed developments, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the development is situated, may be made in writing to The County Secretariat Office, Donegal County Council, Lifford, County Donegal.
Submissions in relation to Circular Road Active Travel Scheme must be made before Wednesday, March 19 at 4pm, while submissions in relation to Ballyraine Road Active Travel Scheme must be made before Wednesday, March 26 at 4pm.
