LETTERKENNY will switch on to Christmas this weekend.
Kicking off the festive season in the town, the Christmas lights will be turned on this Sunday, November 24.
The popular annual family event will commence at Market Square/Main Street at 6pm.
This event is always well attended and a great chance for all of the family to have fun together.
Keith Fletcher, Tessio, the duo who won the Busking Festival, Pinehill Studios and Danu Young Women’s Choir will take to the stage at Market Centre to entertain the crowds before they are joined by a surprise guest.
There will be dancing, singing and a special appearance from Santa.
The President of Letterkenny Chamber, Claire McDonough said: “The excitement of the Christmas lights switch on in Letterkenny is something to behold. We look forward to welcoming all of the families this Sunday for an evening of Christmas magic. Letterkenny Chamber is proud to light up Letterkenny for the festive season. It marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season so we encourage everyone to come along and support local where possible when shopping this Christmas.”
However, Letterkenny Chamber doesn’t do all the work alone.
“The Christmas lights and this event are supported by Donegal County Council and as always, we appreciate their help and the extra financial support from sponsors,” Ms McDonough concluded.
The lights will be switched on by the winner of the Letterkenny Chamber Christmas Art Competition.
The lucky winner will get to push the button, meet Santa and have their art work on a limited edition wallet for the Christmas season.
This year, the Christmas lighting display and the switch on event will be sponsored by Highland Radio.
The Star of Hope at the Polestar Roundabout is sponsored by PGIM, the Christmas tree is sponsored by Curtis Opticians and the Kiltoy Roundabout is sponsored by Watson Hire.
