DONEGAL Division is to be boosted by four additional garda members, three of whom will be based in Letterkenny.

A graduation ceremony will take place at the Garda College in Templemore in Friday, after which three additional garda members will be based at Letterkenny Garda Station.

One will be based in Buncrana.

Cathaoirleach of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Cllr Gerry McMonagle has welcomed the news, given the previous sparse allocation of new garda recruits to the Donegal Division.

The former chairman of the now defunct Donegal Joint Policing Committee (JPC) told the Donegal News he hoped the trend continues.

“To be honest, I am delighted and I hope this trend continues.

“To date, we have been getting the odd garda recruit. So, to get an allocation of four is very welcome news.

“Let’s hope we get more garda recruits in the near future,” he said.
