Letterkenny stunned at sudden death of Dessie Larkin

There is a sense of shock and disbelief in Letterkenny today at the sudden and untimely death of former councillor Dessie Larkin this morning.

The father of four was aged only 49. He retired from politics in recent years and spent a period working as Letterkenny Town Manager. 
It is understood Mr Larkin passed away at his Newmills home this morning. 
As a former Letterkenny Town Councillor and Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Mr Larkin worked tirelessly for his constituents and came from a strong Fianna Fáil family with his late father James having served as a senator. 

Tributes have been pouring in from the many, many people who have been stunned by Mr Larkin’s passing.
In a post on Facebook, Letterkenny Chamber stated: “It is with great sadness and shock that we have learnt of the untimely and sudden death of Dessie Larkin. Dessie was a proud and passionate Letterkenny man and was dedicated and enthusiastic about the town he loved. He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Mary, his children and wider family circle. May he rest in peace.”
Funeral arrangements are not yet known.
