Letterkenny St Patrick’s Day parade cancelled

FOR the first time in twenty years there will be no St Patrick’s Day parade in Letterkenny.
The decision was taken this afternoon following a meeting of the Letterkenny Chamber.
Ms Toni Forrester, CEO, Letterkenny Chamber, said it was the only sensible option left open to the members.
“We had been waiting on Government guidance but with non forthcoming we decided that the best thing to do was cancel this year’s parade on health and safety grounds. The decision was taken following a tele-conference with board members.
“It’s the first time that we’ve had to cancel the St Patrick’s Day parade since 2001 (cancelled due to the Foot and Mouth disease) but it’s the right decision to make,” she said.

Earlier, Cork and SLigo cancelled their St Patrick’s Day parades. Various smaller towns across the country had also already called off their festivities.
