YOUNG members of Letterkenny Rugby Club are set to grace the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.
The Letterkenny club has been invited to play in the Aviva Mini Rugby Festival and their Under-10s will be one of twenty rugby teams from picked from 240 clubs across the country who will get the opportunity to play where their heroes, like Brian O’Driscoll, Peter O’Mahony and Jamie Heaslip, have played.
The National Festival is being held in the Aviva Stadium for the first time and the twenty Under 10 clubs from all over the country will be playing against each other in a non competitive and fun environment. This gives the players the chance to develop their skills on a pitch that has been graced by some of the world’s greatest rugby players in the past 12 months.
Former Irish and Munster played David Wallace will be on hand on the day to give his tips and advice to who may be the future stars of Irish rugby. Each of the competitors on the day will receive a certificate of participation signed by Irish Internationals Brian O’Driscoll, Peter O’Mahony and Jamie Heaslip.
“I would have given anything to have the chance to play in this ground when I was in my U10 team,” Wallace said. “What an opportunity! The Aviva Mini Rugby Festivals should be on every rugby club manager’s agenda to get involved and show your club members that you believe in them and their ability. It’s going to be an amazing day out for everyone involved”.
Hendrik Kruger, IRFU Age Grade Manager said, “The ethos of Mini Rugby is to foster and develop young players of all ability in the game of rugby in a safe, non-competition, enjoyable environment through activities which ensure progressive skill development for all participants in line with the IRFU LTPD pathway, Child Welfare Policy and the Traditions of Rugby Union. The Aviva National Mini Rugby Festival is a fantastic opportunity to bring together clubs from all four provinces and help to foster ties between clubs that would not otherwise meet.”
