FOOTBALLING neighbours Letterkenny Rovers and Bonagee United came together for a unique Darkness into Light fundraiser to honour the memories of two valued club members who passed away recently.

Coaches and club members from the two clubs took part in a ‘Walking Football’ match at Leckview Park.

The match got underway under darkness at 4.30am with the players and the large crowd of spectators sharing the sunrise in a unique charity event.

The two clubs organised the game in honour of Kieran McGrath and Liam Haughey, two well known Letterkenny men who died in March.

Kieran was a member of Letterkenny Rovers while Liam was a former player and member of Bonagee United.

Members of the McGrath and Haughey families were at Leckview on Saturday morning where before the game, a minute’s silence was observed.

The match itself ended in a 2-1 victory for Bonagee United.

But it was a morning when the result didn’t really matter – it was all about two local clubs doing their bit for Pieta House while honouring the memories of two cherished friends.
