RESIDENTS of an apartment block in Letterkenny have been left fearing homelessness after they recently received a letter of termination.
On December 8, 2023, the residents received a letter of termination stating the landlord intended to sell the dwelling.
The letter read, “The tenancy of the dwelling at Apt 4A, Oliver Plunkett Road, Letterkenny, Co Donegal, will terminate on Monday the 3rd of June 2024.
“You must vacate and give up possession of the dwelling on or before the termination date.”
Ailgimantas Brizinskas, who is from Lithuania, has been living in Letterkenny with his partner Zaneta Adamajtys, who is from Poland, for the past 10 years.
Residing at Oliver Plunkett Road in Letterkenny for the past two years, the couple say they now face the “difficult” task of finding a new place to live.
Speaking to the Donegal News about the tremendous struggle they are about to face, Zaneta said at the minute they are so upset they don’t know what to do.
“I was very upset when I got the eviction notice. I was crying because I don’t know what I have to do.
“We are looking for a house but we can’t find anything and we don’t know what we are going to do,” she said.
With very little properties available, like so many, the couple can do nothing else but have their names added to the “queue”.
With the prices of rent skyrocketing, Zaneta said houses are “very expensive”.
“We are going to be homeless, honestly, because we are not ready to pay €1,500 a month for a house,” she said.
Other than this couple, the Donegal News has been informed that two others living in the same block are also facing termination.
