Letterkenny ranked in top ten for homeworkers

LETTERKENNY has been ranked eighth out of 50 towns in Ireland as the best places to work from home. It came fourth in the same survey as the cheapest place to work from home.

The survey published by Switcher.ie takes into account a range of factors including, average property prices, access to 5G broadband, crime rates and the number of local restaurants. It also considers GP access, food delivery services and the number of top local schools.

Switcher.ie maintains that the rise of remote working means you can choose to live wherever you like, as long as you can afford your mortgage, without having to worry about where the best jobs are located.

Describing Letterkenny, the survey states “…it has some of the cheapest housing in our study as well as access to some of the top schools. The town has lots to offer if you have a family and want to send them to the best schools”.

“The data which was gathered in July 2021 was used to calculate the index we worked out the crime rate, number of restaurants, GPs, coffee shops and top-rated schools per 1,000 people.

“We also looked at three main providers of 5G and food delivery to see if they had a good level of coverage in each town and city, as well as taking into account the cost of a house,” a spokesperson or Switcher.ie said.

Sligo came out top with Galway second. No other town in Donegal was included in the 50 towns surveyed.

Chamber of Commerce CEO Toni Forrester said this was an “interesting survey.”

“We have over the last two years seen people relocate back to Donegal and a fairly high level of enquiries as employers offer increased flexibility on location. The advantages of lower house prices and excellent schools make it an excellent place to work and live in. While broadband provision is by no means perfect there are alternatives offered through the digital hubs so ensuring good connectivity across the county.

“People who have made Donegal their new home or who have re- located here can have a much better work life balance than they would enjoy in a city as Letterkenny offers all the advantages and opportunities of a small city but on the edge of amazing beaches and countryside,” she said.
