Letterkenny plays host to BEO national final

THE national final of an annual schools competition will be held in the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, this Friday.

Babhta Ceannais IMRO Comórtas BEO 2015 is a national competition which enourages the nurturing and promotion of original music amongst second level school students.

This year’s finalists are Colaiste na Carraige, Pobal Scoil na Rossan, Lón, St Joseph’s Castlebar, St Columba’s Stranorlar, Colaiste Ide agu Iosef and Scoil Phol Kilfinnan.

Each school will begin the day of the competition with a ten-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute question period from the judges.
This year’s judges are Caitheoirleach Noel Mac Giolla Bhride; stalwart Irish music writer Jackie Hayden, Barbara Níc Dhonnacha (iRadio), Nadine Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh (Iarscolaire Coláiste Ailigh), as well as a surprise judge from IMRO.

While the schools are presenting there will be an open mic session at 2pm. The Nameless and Johnny Weitbrecht will headline the open mic session at 3.20pm. There will also be a Wii, PlayStation and board games available to keep all entertained.

Later on that evening there will be performances from DOGS, Team RKT, The Good Youth agus The Nameless as well as an address by Aire na Gaeltachta Joe Mc Hugh TD. This year’s BEO will come to a close with a disco with Johnny Weitbrecht.
