John Richard, a dedicated member of St Eunan’s Cathedral Parish Pastoral Council and Eucharist minister, experienced what he describes as “one of the best moments in life” when he attended a Special Audience with Pope Leo at the Vatican on Saturday, January 10.
The special gathering brought together thousands of volunteers from across the globe who served during the Jubilee Year 2025, offering them a unique opportunity to receive the Holy Father’s gratitude and Apostolic Blessing.
Richard’s journey to this momentous occasion began during the first two weeks of May 2025, when he volunteered at the Vatican during the Jubilee Year—a period that coincided with the recent Conclave. His service and dedication did not go unnoticed by Vatican officials.
Following the conclusion of the Jubilee Year, Pope Leo expressed his desire to personally address the volunteers who had given their time and energy to support pilgrims and visitors. Volunteer secretariat in the Vatican City extended a formal invitation to Richard to attend the Special Audience at the Pope St Paul VI Audience Hall.
For this remarkable journey, Richard was accompanied by his younger daughter, Tanya, a student at Loreto Convent. Together, they joined the sea of volunteers gathered in the iconic Vatican hall, where they had the privilege of seeing Pope Leo in person, listening to his message and receiving the Apostolic Blessing.
The experience represents not only a personal milestone for the Richard family but also reflects the strong commitment to faith and service exemplified by members of the St Eunan’s Cathedral community.
