SEVEN weeks after going missing a Letterkenny put has been returned home safely on the weekend of its owners’ return from their honeymoon.
Laura McCole and Kevin McDaid’s pet pug, who goes by the name of Freddie, went missing in the Long Lane area of Letterkenny at the end of May just weeks before the well-known couple were due to get married.
Freddie had been last seen near his home and all hopes had faded for his safe return until last weekend after a man bought Freddie at a market and suspected that the dog had been stolen.
Laura told the Donegal News: “A Cavan man bought him last sat at a market, he knew by the way he (Freddie) was acting and wasn’t eating that he must have belonged to someone.”
The man checked the website www.donedeal.ie and came across an advert a friend of the Letterkenny couple had posted.
Laura said: “A friend of mine had put an add up at the time Freddie went missing. He contacted her and they arranged to take a chip scanner which they got from Lk Pets and Donegal Pet Rescue.
“Once they scanned him it showed it was Freddie chip number! We were on honeymoon and could not wait to get home to see him on Sunday night.
Laura paid tribute to the many people that shared messages online in a bid to find their beloved pet. She said: “If it wasn’t for everyone’s help sharing the photo and putting up posters around Letterkenny we would never have got him back.”
