Letterkenny man’s poster sold at Luke Combs’ gig

By Dionne Meehan

WITH Letterkenny recently taking the title of being the town ‘most obsessed’ with country music in Ireland, one lucky local’s dreams came true when he was asked to create a poster for American singer-songwriter Luke Combs.

Letterkenny man, Garbhán Grant jumped at the opportunity when he was contacted by the popular merchandise company ‘collectionzz’.

Well-known for creating merchandise for the likes of The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Wu-Tang Clan and Elton John, Garbhán was tasked with creating a poster to sell at Luke Comb’s Zurich gig.

Now living in Dubai, Garbhán worked as a graphic designer in Bizzprint in Letterkenny before he set off on his new adventure.

Delighted for the opportunity, Garbhán said he couldn’t believe it when the message came in.

“You do a piece of art based on the location.

“For previous posters, they have done a lot of trucks.

“Because the truck had been used so much, they kind of just wanted something more original,” he said.

Wanting to incorperate all things native to Switzerland into his piece, Garbhán began his research.

“I wanted the Matterhorn in the background with the St. Bernard mountain dog as well.

“The St. Bernard dog is the national dog of Switzerland, I didn’t realise that until I did a bit of research,” he said.

After testing different concepts, his design got approved and Garbhán put pen to paper.

Following 30 hours of hard work and endless Luke Combs playlists for added inspiration, his masterpiece was complete.

With this opportunity being Garbhán’s first paid gig, he looks forward to his next project.

“Having only started a year or two ago, you just have to get your work out there and see if anyone picks you up.

“The more you put out, the more chance you have at something catching,” he said.
