A LETTERKENNY man who survived a devastating road traffic collision that claimed the life of his brother, has recalled the final words they shared moments before tragedy struck.
Martin Gallagher, whose brother Anthony was killed just metres away from their home in the early hours of St Patrick’s Day, said he is still being haunted by nightmares nearly three months after the tragic accident.
Following the ordeal, Martin spent seven weeks in University Hospital Galway receiving treatment for the serious injuries he sustained.
However, two weeks ago, he returned to his beloved Letterkenny, where he is currently receiving respite care.
In a highly emotional interview with the Donegal News, Martin said he dreads having to return to what is now an empty family home.
He recalled how the two brothers were chatting together just before they were struck by a car.
Martin said Anthony had told him he didn’t fancy going for any drinks on St. Patrick’s Day.
Anthony died in the incident and Martin was airlifted from Letterkenny University Hospital to a hospital in Galway where days later he would watch his brother’s funeral online.
He still has to visit Anthony’s grave.
And almost three months on from the tragic incident, Garda investigations are ongoing.
“I want justice for my brother,” Martin said.
“But things are moving very slow.”
