A MAN who had five drink driving offences against him has been handed a six-month suspended prison sentence.
Martin Harkin, with an address at 2a Ard Crannagh House, Letterkenny, was also banned from driving for four years when he appeared at Falcarragh District Court on Wednesday.
The charges related to incidents at various locations in 2021 including Port Road, Letterkenny, on March 31 of that year; Rashedogue, Letterkenny, on March 24; Tullyearl Roundabout, Donegal Town, on November 14; Dooneglebe, New Mills, Letterkenny, on May 28, and Whitethorn Park, Letterkenny, on April 28.
Defendant was also charged with driving while exceeding the drug limit on March 31.
He faced a further charge of possession of drugs at Radharc Na Gleann, Ardara, on October 3, 2022.
A Probation and Welfare report found that he was at a moderate risk of reoffending and the court was told that he had been engaging more positively with the Services in recent times.
Defending solicitor, Gordon Curley said his client was alcohol and drug free at present and had been for some time.
“He is anxious to get help,” he added.
Describing the offences as “serious matters”, Judge Éiteáin Cunningham noted that the defendant had been engaging with the Probation Services.
She imposed a six-month suspended prison sentence for a period of 12 months on his own bond of €200 and ordered him to continue engaging with the Probation Services.
