Letterkenny hostel plans given green light

THE change of use of a dwelling house to hostel accommodation in Letterkenny has been given the go-ahead.

Donegal County Council has given the green light to retention permission for the development at 1 Clachan Mór, Windyhall.

Applicant, Mr Brendan McDaid applied for retention permission in February for the change of use of a dwelling house to hostel residential accommodation at Letterkenny.

The retention permission been granted in recent days, subject to eight conditions, and unless and appeal is lodged with An Bord Pleanála four weeks from the date of April 10, 2025.

Under stipulations set down by the council, the hostel must only accommodate a maximum of five bed spaces, strictly in accordance with lodged plans and details submitted on February 18, 2025.

The hostel accommodation shall be used as a short-term tourist accommodation for a maximum stay of 60 consecutive days only, and shall not be used as long-term or permanent residential accommodation.

Furthermore, foul water generated by the development hereby permitted shall be disposed of via the public foul sewer.

To prevent flooding and in the interest of public health, no surface water from the site shall be permitted to discharge to public road and the applicant must take effective steps prior to the first occupation of the development hereby permitted to ensure compliance.

No storm water from the site shall be discharged to the public foul sewer unless otherwise agreed in writing with the Planning Authority.
