Letterkenny family reaches quarter finals

The Gallaghers from Letterkenny will be competing in the first of two quarter finals on Ireland’s Fittest Family.

The first quarter final will be shown on RTE One this Sunday at 6.30pm.

When Lisa Gallagher applied for the show not all of her children were keen on the idea. However after a lot of persuading everyone got their game face on for the show which was recorded in July.

Lisa’s children Molly, James and Connor make up the Gallagher team and each of them is no stranger when it comes to fitness.

Molly is a gymnast who represented Ireland as part of the Finesse Display Team and James and Connor spend most of their time playing soccer.

With €15,000 on the line the Gallaghers will have to listen to every bit of advice coach Anna Geary throws at them.

Coach Anna will have split loyalties, as she has two families in Sunday’s quarter-finals – the McNallys from Monaghan and the Gallaghers.

They’ll be facing Davy’s Nugents from Louth and Donncha’s Cooneys from Cork.

It is the first of two Fittest Family quarter finals in the Forest and four families and their coaches will be hoping to do enough to stay in the game.

If so, they will progress from the Forest into the semi-finals in the Swamp and make it all the way to the final on the Mountain.

Making its debut this year is the dreaded ‘all tyred out’, a draining four-way relay race designed to push the families to their limits.

Then it’s old favourite ‘hanging tough’ – the families have been practicing this one but nothing can prepare them for the real thing.

After these two events, the two families at the top of the leader board are through to the semi-final.

The two families at the bottom of the leader board face the eliminator and one of them leave the competition for good.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Lisa Gallagher said being part of the show was a fantastic experience.

Inspiring

“The coaches on the show were absolutely amazing, especially our coach Anna.

“She was so inspiring and she pushed us to do our best, she always seemed to say the right thing to egg us on.

“All my children were fantastic considering we had some long days of filming, constantly on the go. The families we competed against were all lovely also,” she said.

Tune in to RTE One on Sunday evening to see how the Gallagher family get on.
