Letterkenny event to celebrate Irish and Ukrainian cultures

A DAY full of art, food and music is being held in The Cottage Bar in Letterkenny on Tuesday, April 25 in a bid to celebrate Irish and Ukrainian cultures.

The event was organised by Steven Crane who is the current organiser of Mouth Piece Open Mic Night.

Held on the last Tuesday of every month, Mouth Piece Open Mic Night was set up to showcase new music in Donegal.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Steven said he wanted to get Ukrainians involved to make sure they were feeling welcome.

Kicking things off, an art exhibition will be taking place at 4pm, upstairs in The Cottage Bar.

An art exhibition, organised by Kayleigh Bowery, will feature many Ukrainian artists, showcasing pieces from a recent exhibition held in An Grianan Theatre called ‘Birds Flying High’.

Following the exhibition, plenty of home cooked Irish and Ukrainian food will be served. Food will be available to sample from 4pm to 6pm.

Following the food, a Mouth Piece Open Mic Night will begin at 7pm.

On the night there will be performances from Without Willow, Aisling Jarvis, Michael Gillespie, Future Moyo, Gary Gillen, Max Agafonov, The Notions,

Darren O’Halloran, Hannah Ryan, Logi Bare, Yuri Manziuk, Finlay Thompson and Finnoula Fallon, Millie Green, Hannah McFadden and more.

John Muldowney will MC on the night and so far, three Ukrainian artists are set to perform.

Steven said he wanted the Ukrainians involved in the Mouth Piece nights for a while as he was sure there must be some musicians among them.

“Anyone that wants to come along, especially Ukrainian musicians, to perform, everything will be set up for them. They don’t need to bring anything and we’ll find them a guitar if they don’t have one.

“The open mic night has become very big in terms of the amount of performers we have. We are just getting bigger and bigger each month and hopefully this one will be one of the bigger ones. The event is completely voluntary and everyone who gets involved is doing it for the sense of community and to support the local music scene,” he said.

A raffle will also take place on the night in a bid to raise funds for the performers.

Prizes on the night will be a selection of pieces from local artists, provided by Amelia’s, Irish Design and Gifts, Letterkenny.
