SCORES of car enthusiasts are expected to descend on Letterkenny next weekend for a ‘cruise’ in memory of a young Antrim man killed following crash.
John Reid (21), from the Ballymena area, died on Thursday, almost three weeks after a car he was travelling in crash into a wall and burst into flames in Ballymoney.
The single vehicle incident, involving a blue Mitsubishi, happened on the Kilraughts Road in Ballymoney, in the early hours of August 30.
Gardai had been seeking to question Mr Reid after he was filmed performing doughnuts in his Twin Cam in broad daylight outside Letterkenny Courthouse during last year’s Donegal International Rally.
After that incident, he earned the name ‘go on John’ as that was what many shouted as he performed the dangerous manoeuvre around another young man standing in the middle of the road.
The memorial cruise for Mr Reid which has been planned for Letterkenny on Sunday, September 27.
Facebook group, Seacat Belfast, is organising a convoy to the Cathedral town for the memorial.
A post on the page read: “There will be a convoy from Seacat to Letterkenny for the John Reid memorial cruise on Sunday 27th September. Turnout expected to be huge followed by ‘a location X’. Car enthusiasts from all over the country will be there.”
Hundreds of tributes have been left underneath the post as thousands shared the post as a mark of respect.
