Letterkenny Chamber rules out alternative Easter event

By Dionne Meehan

AFTER the cancellation of this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Letterkenny, an alternative Easter event has this week been deemed “not feasible”.

The difficult decision to cancel this year’s parade was made by the newly elected Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce President, Jimmy Stafford, after a serious road traffic collision claimed the life of Anthony Gallagher, and seriously injured his brother Martin, in the early hours of St. Patrick’s Day.

Since last Monday, a number of requests have been made to reschedule the St. Patrick’s Day Parade to Easter.

However, following a review of cost and safety implications for both the business community and participants, the Chamber decided that it is not feasible to proceed with an alternative Easter event.

“We understand the need to cancel this year’s event was disappointing for everyone who had planned to take part, as well as the many volunteers, community groups, and organisers who had put so much work in behind the scenes,” a Chamber spokesperson said. “We’re incredibly grateful for your continued support—and we now look forward to the rest of this year’s events with renewed energy and community spirit.”
