Letterkenny business wins big at Electric Vehicle Dealership of the Year Awards

Connolly’s Volkswagen Letterkenny has been announced as the Donegal winner in the Zero Vehicles Emissions Ireland (ZEVI) Electric Vehicle Dealership of the Year Awards 2024.

Now in their third year, these awards recognise and reward excellence in the promotion and sale of electric vehicles (EVs) in Ireland.

In total, 134 car dealerships from 23 counties participated in the awards, up from 124 dealerships in 2023. Funded by ZEVI, these SEAI-administered awards recognise dealerships working to build consumer understanding and experience of EVs and ultimately their roll-out on Irish roads.

Car dealerships are a vital part of the transition to clean and efficient transport. Increasing the amount of EVs on Irish roads means drivers will pollute less, reduce their motoring costs and benefit from the latest technology.

Participating car dealers were assessed through a mystery shopping exercise where they were scored on factors including EV prominence in the showroom, salesperson knowledge of EVs, and overall sales approach. Other evaluation areas included EV training, sales trends, and the dealership’s website.

The winners announced today are on the shortlist for the regional awards which will be announced at this year’s Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) Annual Dinner taking place on February 22, 2024. One of the four regional winners will then be announced the overall national winner at the SEAI Energy Show taking place in the RDS, Dublin on March 20 – 21, 2024.

Commenting on today’s announcement Declan Meally, Director of Business, Public Sector and Transport at SEAI said:

“I want to congratulate this year’s county award winners, with extremely high standards demonstrated by all competing dealerships. It is inspiring to see the continued commitment to reducing emissions on our roads, helping Ireland to achieve a cleaner, more efficient transport future.  It is great to see a significant increase not only in EV sales, but in participation in the 2024 awards.  SEAI recognises that car dealerships and their staff are a key enabler of EV uptake and is delighted to reward excellence in the field.”
