A Letterkenny barber has started a GoFundMe in response to the earthquake in Morocco last Friday.
The magnitude 6.8 earthquake has claimed close to 3,000 lives and a further 5,000 people have been injured in the country’s deadliest earthquake since 1960.
Said Ben Salem is a Moroccan native living in the county since 2003. He owns Future Style Barbers which is based in Letterkenny.
He said he set up the GoFundMe page to raise money for the families who have lost everything in the earthquake.
He plans to travel to Morocco soon and buy supplies such as tents, food, clothes and to distribute the money raised amongst those affected.

Meanwhile, the seismometer in St Columba’s College physics lab picked up a very strong signal from the earthquake last Friday night.
The entire catalogue of events recorded by the Stranorlar school can be found online as well as a live stream of data from their new seismometer which was recently donated to the school by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Study as part of their Community Seismology outreach programme.
