PLANNING permission for an apartment block in Letterkenny appealed to An Bord Pleanála by a number of local businesses owners has been given the green light.
The go-ahead for the proposed development of a residential building comprising 28 apartments was given the green light in November last.
Applicant Gerald McCallion, on behalf of Glenturas Construction Ltd., lodged plans in November 2023 for the construction of a residential building consisting of 28 apartments on the Paddy Harte and Pearse Road, Letterkenny.
Donegal County Council granted the go-ahead to the development in November 2024, with 25 conditions attached.
But a series of objections were lodged over the plans regarding unsuitable current road infrastructure in the area, congestion and traffic issues, and concerns regarding a loss of privacy to other residents owing to the height of the proposed apartment block. The proposed development was subsequently appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
However, the national independent planning body has upheld Donegal County Council’s planning permission, giving the development the go-ahead subject to 17 conditions.
Conditions include that the proposed development must be carried out and completed in accordance with the plans and particulars lodged with the application, and the proposed development hereby granted will be for 30 residential units.
The use of the dwellings permitted is restricted to use by persons of a particular class or description, as provided for by Section 39 (2) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), that being use for social housing, prior to the commencement of the development, the applicant or any person with an interest in the land shall enter agreement under section 47 of the Act giving effect to this requirement.
Prior to the commencement of the development, the developer shall enter into a Connection Agreement with Uisce Éireann to provide for a service connection to the public water supply and/or wastewater collection network.
