LETTER TO EDITOR: No sense to parking changes outside Letterkenny school

Christy Galligan

The recent reduction in parking spaces outside Scoil Colmcille on Convent Road in Letterkenny, will create mayhem for parents and bus owners alike when schools reopen again.

The thought processes behind the engineering feat leaves, I’m sure, anyone with a modicum of common sense, and without an engineering degree, scratching their heads at the sheer stupidity of this move to reduce parking spaces.

As if Letterkenny and it surrounds wasn’t bad enough with the extra traffic lights that were installed on Pearse Road or at the Polestar roundabout, which has caused huge delays and traffic snarl upset, the fact that those in charge of our roadways at council or national level deem fit to exacerbate an already trying situation by making things worse, calls into question the decision-making of those in charge.

It’s bad enough that we don’t have an adequate local bus service to help commuters or shoppers to get from A to B, we are now forced to accept a reduction in car parking spaces on one of the busiest school roads in and around Letterkenny.

Where are those councilors or TDs who came to our doors seeking our votes only recently?

Why aren’t they up in arms about the difficulties that we have in managing this chaos to our infrastructure?

While certain politicians talk about getting people away from fossil fuel driven mobility, the only alternatives to this by the powers that be in rural areas, outside, Dublin, Cork or Galway, is parking reduction, extra traffic lights and extremely frustrated commuters.
