Termon 7-10 Lacken 2-10
GERALDINE McLaughlin was on fire to shoot Termon ladies into the Ulster senior semi-final at the expense of Cavan champions Lacken.
Despite being away from home, Termon’s sharp-shooter was in scintillating form, scorching an incredible 5-4 past the stunned Cavan side.
McLaughlin hit four goals in the first half, the first of them coming inside the first minute of the game, as Termon led 6-5 to 1-5.
McLaughlin added another goal in the second half to seal an impressive win and another magnificent scoring haul by the Donegal ace.
The other two goals came from captain Maureen O’Donnell and young Lucy O’Flynn.
It was an impressive performance by Termon who were led by that inspired display of their chief markswoman.
This was no mean Cavan outfit. Lacken had four players – Rosie Crowe, Erin Gallagher, Roisin O’Keefe and Joanne Moore – from the Cavan team that recently won the All-Ireland Intermediate title.
The Lacken team also contained former Donegal and St Eunan’s ace Debbie Lee Fox, now Debbie Lee Gaffney.
Goalkeeper Laura Gallagher, sister of Donegal All-Star Neil, made a couple of fine saves throughout while Roisin McCafferty and Niamh Friel were among the other stars for Termon, who advance to meet Armagh’s Carrickcruppen in next week’s semi-final.
Termon: Laura Gallagher; Marie McFadden, Niamh Friel, Roisin Friel; Grainne McCafferty, Petra McCafferty, Emer Gallagher; Therese McCafferty, Roisin McCafferty; Maria Carr, Olive McCafferty, Nicole McLaughlin; Maureen O’Donnell, Lucy O’Flynn, Geraldine McLaughlin. Subs used: Caroline Duffy, Grace Trearty, Shauna Kelly, Sharon McLaughlin.
Elsewhere, Milford are into the next round of the Intermediate Championship after a 3-10 to 3-8 win over Mayobridge (Down), but there was disappointment for Gaoth Dobhair on Saturday as they lost out to Aghyaran (Tyrone).
