Éigse Uladh is running in Gaoth Dobhair this weekend and its dedicated to the life and legacy of the late renowned fiddler, footballer, actor and school teacher the late Francie Mooney of Coshclady, Bunbeg.
The éigse will be officially opened by Paddy Glackin in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Páirc Ghnó Ghaoth Dobhair tomorrow Friday at 7.30p.m.
Among the guest speakers at the opening night will be Caoimhín Mac Aoidh of Cairdeas na bhFlidéir, the Gortahork based author, and historian Noel Ó Gallchóir and his brother, Fr. Seán Ó Gallchóir former Parish Priest of Gortahork.
They will give an insight of the great legacy the late Francie Mooney has left us.
On Saturday between 12.30p.m. and 4.00p.m. there is an exhibition of old photographs, rare books and other material relating to the history of the parish taking place in the Crannóg, Derrybeg.
On Saturday evening at 7.30 there will be concert featuring the Mooney family taking place in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair.
Taking part in the concert will Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Áine Ní Mhaonaigh and Gearóid Ó Maonaigh [Francie’s daughters and son] and his fiddle playing grandson, Ciarán Ó Maonaigh.
The Éigse will come to a close with the 11.00a.m. Sunday Mass celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Derrybeg.
This three day event which is held annually is organised by an Chrannóg in Derrybeg.
