Launch of new sign at Bun an Inver Lake blends technology and nature

A new walking path has recently been developed around Bun an Inver Lake in Gaoth Dobhair.

Local authorities and Coiste Forbartha Chnoc Fola secured grant funding to clean the lake and develop a walkway and a children’s cycling route around it.

A new sign has been erected which will enable visitors to download digital apps that enhance their experience on the nature walk.

The apps will allow walkers to learn more about local plants and birds, track their steps, and stay safe while enjoying the outdoors.

It’s a perfect fusion of technology, nature, and the Irish language.

This sign was officially launched on Friday last. The sign was created as a result of the participant of local adults in a nine week Digital Skills Course in the Clár Foghlama Saol organised by ETB Dún na nGall and a five week course with Meitheal Pleanála Teanga an Iarthuascirt in association with Coiste Forbartha Chnoc Fola.

This focused on flora, fauna, wild life, history of the area and local place names.

The path itself is a testament to thoughtful planning. Wide enough for walkers, runners, and families with prams and it encourages people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors.

Among those present at the launch of the new sign were Mairéad Sommerville of ETB, Adel McElhinney of Adult Literacy and Darryl Connors, Donegal Co Council.
