Launch of Mary Turley-McGrath’s second poetry collection

RETIRED Letterkenny teacher Mary Turley-McGrath will launch and read from her new poetry collection Forget the Lake in Café Blend, Letterkenny, on Thursday, April 3 at 8pm. This is Mary’s second collection which is published by Arlen House.

These poems honour the living landscape, its seasons, light and especially water. The interaction between people and the natural world is also explored, as is the miracle of birth. Some of the poems are based in Donegal and celebrate its scenic beauty.

The book has received tributes from Paula Meehan, current Ireland Professor of Poetry, and from critic and author Brian Lynch. A number of poems have already received commendations in national and international competitions such as the Francis Ledwidge International Competition and the Cavan Crystal Awards.

Poems have also been published in magazines in the UK and Ireland: Poetry Ireland Review, The SHOp and the Forward Anthology 2011 (London).
Mary is a founder member of Errigal Writers, Letterkenny. As a teacher in Errigal College she encouraged students in their creativity and many of them received recognition in the Allingham Arts Festival.

Traolach O’Fionnain, Arts Officer Donegal County Council, will introduce the launch event. Music and songs from Patricia Morris and Jim McLoughlin. There will be a wine reception to begin what should be a very enjoyable evening of poetry, music and song.
