A DOCUMENTARY about the Donegal Rally is due on TG4 tonight.
The Irish-language film, which airs at 8pm on TG4, is called Taobh Thiar den Roth – Donegal International Rally.
Its producer Sonia Nic Giolla Easbuig revealed it is not just about young people doing donuts on public roads.
She said: “I think some people, when they think of the rally, they think of young people doing donuts and that kind of thing.”
The series gives viewers a rare insight into one of Europe’s most famous rallies and gives access to the drivers, co-drivers, mechanics, and safety crews.
Donegal’s breathtaking landscape is captured in the four-part documentary along with the raw energy and adrenaline that powers the event which attracts over 70,000 spectators and around 400,000 viewers annually on TV and online.

Filmmaker Sonia, who is behind film production company LIGID Léiriúcháin Teo, said: “The rally is a phenomenal event, run by amazing people. We had an amazing time filming it.”
She added: “This [first] series is about delving behind the scenes of the Donegal Rally.
“In this part of the country, there are a lot of car enthusiasts and the Donegal International Rally is one of the biggest events that we have.
“I wanted to show the drivers of the rallies but also the young fellas who are at home in their garages, getting their cars ready for going to the rally.
“We are delighted with the show.”
The hugely popular Donegal International Rally is scheduled this year for Friday, June 19, to Sunday, June 21.
The first episode of Taobh Thiar den Roth – Donegal International Rally aired last week and episode two is due to be broadcast on Thursday, May 14, on TG4 at 8pm.
