Late McCallion header earns Harps a draw with Galway

Finn Harps 2 Galway United 2

Daithi McCallion scored a late equaliser as Finn Harps drew 2-2 with runaway league leaders Galway United at Finn Park.

Galway United took the lead probably against the run of play just after the first quarter of an hour as Scott Wara was dispossessed by Ronan Manning and the midfielder dinked a brilliant chipped effort over new Harps goalkeeper Antonio Tuta.

Galway had a man sent off ten minutes later as Vincent Borden put in a terrible tackle on Jamie Watson.

The Harps would have been disappointed to go into the break a goal down but within a minute of the second half starting, they were level as half-time substitute Sean O’Donnell headed in from a Ryan Flood cross.

Galway went ahead again with 20 minutes to go when Regan Donelon crossed to the back post towards Killian Brouder who headed back to former Harps man Rob Slevin.

Slevin took a touch and hit a shot low which squeezed past Tuta in the Harps goal.

But the Harps upped the pressure and in the final minute of normal time, they levelled through a Tony McNamee corner which McCallion headed towards the bottom corner and Clarke just couldn’t keep it out as it trickled over the line.

Galway put some late pressure on but the game ended all square as Dave Rogers’ men stay seventh and three points off Wexford in the final play-off spot.
