Late drama as super sub Boyd forces Cup replay

Finn Harps 3-3 Dundalk

Sean Boyd struck a dramatic 95th minute leveller as ten-man Finn Harps fought back to secure a replay against Dundalk in the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup.

It wasn’t looking good for Harps but Boyd struck twice to keep Harps’ cup dreams alive.

The Ballybofey men took the lead in the 25th minute when Tunde Owolabi fired low to the net.

However, Dundalk won a penalty four minutes later. Jordan Mustoe was adjudged to have blocked Sean Murray’s shot with his hand, and he was shown a straight red card much to the frustration of the Harps management team. Pat Hoban converted the spot-kick.

Ethan Boyle had a penalty appeal turned down for Harps before Dundalk went ahead when Sean Murray sent a low drive to the net in the 39th minute.

HT: Harps 1-2 Dundalk

Harps started the second half brightly but they couldn’t create a chance of note.

Dundalk grabbed their third goal in the 66th minute when Sean Murray crossed into the box and Hoban headed home.

Harps didn’t give up and Sean Boyd pulled a goal back in the 84th minute with a fine header.

Boyd almost levelled matters moments later but Daniel Cleary was in the right place to stop the ball finding the net.

Ollie Horgan’s men kept pushing and Kosovar Sadiki somehow fired over the bar.

However, there was still time for one more play and super sub Boyd struck again to set up a replay on Tuesday evening at Oriel Park.
