FAMILY and friends have been remembering a Donegal man on the first anniversary of his death.
Kyle McDermott (24), who was originally from Burt, died in Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry following an altercation on the Victoria Road area of Ballymagorry village, near Strabane, on October 7, 2024.
Daniel Patrick Hanna (24) of Victoria Road, Strabane, has been charged with Mr McDermott’s manslaughter. Police in the north previously described the incident as a “callous and brutal” assault.
Kyle’s first anniversary Mass was celebrated in St Aengus’ Church, Burt, on Sunday.
Many tributes have been paid to Kyle online, with one person writing: “Such a waste of life, lovely fellow, RIP Kyle,”, another person wrote: “Hard to believe it’s a year, thinking of Stephen, Clare and the family, and his partner Chloe,” while another person remembered Kyle as “well mannered”.
“One of the best well mannered lads I’ve ever known and worked with. RIP Kyle.”
Mr McDermott’s cousin, Derry and Strabane Independent councillor Jason Barr, shared a tribute to Kyle ahead of his the first anniversary of his death. It reads:
In loving memory of a dearly cherished son, partner, brother, nephew,
Cousin and friend who passed away on 7th October 2024.
They say there is a reason,
They say that time will heal,
But neither time nor reason,
Will change the way we feel.
No one knows the heartache,
That lies behind the smiles,
No one knows how many times,
We have broken down and cried.
We want to tell you something,
So there won’t be any doubt,
You’re so wonderful to think of,
And so hard to be without.
Lovingly remembered and sorely missed everyday
by your mum Claire and dad Stephen, partner Chloe,
brothers, Arden and Sheehan, sister Stephanie,
entire family circle and friends.
