A KNEE injury is set to keep Patrick McBrearty out of the McKenna Cup campaign.
The Kilcar man was expected to play for his college, University of Ulster Jordanstown, in the competition. However, McBrearty sat out last Saturday’s 0-20 to 2-10 defeat by Monaghan in Castleblayney and seems unlikely to feature against Cavan or Down in the next two games.
McBrearty sustained the injury while playing for Kilcar in last month’s Donegal Under-21 Football Championship final against St Eunan’s.
While he seems unlikely to play in the McKenna Cup, Donegal boss Rory Gallagher expects the forward to be well on track for the start of the National League.
“It’s nothing too serious, but it’ll probably keep him out for another week or so,” Gallagher said this week.
“We wouldn’t be overly concerned about it. He needs a bit of rest on it and while I don’t think he’ll play in the McKenna Cup we’d expect to integrate him back into collective training in the next fortnight so he’ll be ready to go for the League.”
