KILLYBEGS have been given a boost ahead of tomorrow’s county final against Glenswilly with the news that midfielder Enda Murphy has been cleared to play.
Murphy was sent off in the first half of Killybegs’ semi-final win over Malin and looked set to be consigned to a watching brief in Ballybofey.
However, Killybegs officials launched an appeal and, following a hearing last night with the Donegal Competitions Controls Committee (CCC), Murphy has been given an eleventh-hour reprieve.
Killybegs are understood to have won their case on a technicality, believed to have been a mix-up in the infraction that Murphy had been initially cited for.
Without Murphy, the Killybegs manager Martin Slua Boyle would have been forced into a rejig, but the player has now been given the green light to resume his centrefield partnership with Matthew Smyth.
The club, via its official Twitter account, expressed delight, tweeting: “Massive Lift! Enda Murphy cleared to play tomorrow!”
Killybegs have an injury concern over Brendan McGuire, while a knee injury keeps Ronan Boyle sidelined.
Glenswilly, meanwhile, have concerns over Ryan Hunter and Leon Kelly, but Ciaran Bonner is expected to shake off a hamstring injury to play.
Glenswilly will be keeping their fingers crossed that talisman Michael Murphy comes through tonight’s International Rules Test in Cavan, with Murphy set to captain Ireland against Australia.
