KILDRUM Tigers youngsters preparing for the 2014 Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup had a visit from Aaron McEneff, the Derry teenager who has just signed his first professional contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 19-year-old midfielder attended a training session at Station Road recently and offered some words of encouragement for the club’s Under-10 and Under-12 teams which are competing in next week’s Foyle Cup. McEneff played for Institute before making a move to White Hart Lane in 2012.

Kildrum’s underage teams are thriving at present, operating in the underage Derry and District League and with several promising players emerging at the St Johnston-based side.

The Under-12s are managed by Russell Porter and Shane Porter, whose side have an added boost next week with their three group games in Group E seeing them face Ballymoney United, TW Braga and South Donegal Schoolboys all at their home at Station Road Park.

The Under-12s have flourished of lae, spurred on by ace marksmen Zach Tinney and Jack McCarron, the team captain Shane Coyle as well as fine displays from the talents of Anton Murtagh, CJ Clarke and Gavin McGee.

With the likes of Callum Hassan, Jerry McKinney, Bobby Bradley and Corey Lindsay the Tiger cubs will be aiming to make a mark on the prestigeous annual tournament.

Former Kildrum star Johnny Tinney is in joint charge of the Under-10s alongside Adrian Peoples and they have been pitted with Oxford Colts, Maiden City Colts, Dungannon United and Coleraine in Group C.

Conceding just four goals in their last ten games, they’re back-boned by a strong defence including Stuart McCrabbe, Daniel Coyle and Eoin Creagh. With Charlie Shovlin and Ciaran O’Connor pulling the strings in the engine room, Kildrum aren’t short on creativity and their frontmen Josh Martin and Thomas O’Connor have been banging in the goals.
