KILDRUM Tigers have moved to allay fears that the club could be thrown out of Intermediate football in the coming days.

The St Johnston based club, three time former winners of the Ulster Senior League, failed to field against recently-crowned champions Cockhill Celtic last Sunday at the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds.

USL rules state that clubs who fail to field twice in the one season face expulsion.

Maurice Toland’s charges are due to travel to Bonagee this weekend while their final league game is against Drumkeen United, also away from home. They have been drawn against Swilly Rovers, in Ramelton, in the Intermediate Cup at the end of the month.

When contacted this week the Kildrum Secretary, Chris McNulty, said that the club remain committed to the USL.

“In the last month alone the club has lost up to 30 players to teams competing in the Donegal and Inishowen Leagues and it’s getting increasingly difficult for the manager to put a team together.

“That said, we’ll endeavour to fulfil our remaining fixtures and we remain committed to the USL but that doesn’t take from the fact that there are some big decisions for the league and its members to take in the coming weeks and months to safeguard its future,” Mr McNulty said.

The increasing difficulty with the respective transfer windows between the USL and junior leagues was highlighted in the Donegal News last week with confirmation that the Donegal League had agreed to 111 incoming transfers in recent weeks.
